There is no doubt the Golden State Warriors are still the best team in the NBA. And they have been for the past three seasons as well.
There is a mix of unparalleled shooting, playmaking, hustle, unselfishness, and joy on that team. Of course, having two top-five players in the world helps a lot, but the Warriors have been establishing this culture since their 2014-15 championship season. Not coincidentally, that was head coach Steve Kerr's first season on the job. It was also Kerr's first ever head coaching job; he had done some front office work and loved working as a TV announcer. But his arrival to the Bay Area has as a lot to do with the Warriors' success.
In a recent story by The Athletic's Anthony Slater, Kerr told the site who he thought this year's team resembles:

But that team wasn't Houston. That (Spurs) team had a lot of guys who were just so-so three-point shooters, but they had so many playmakers. That's who we are. That's who we most closely resemble, I think.”
It is no surprise Kerr makes a comparison to those Spurs, coached by all-time great Gregg Popovich. Kerr got a chance to absorb a lot of Popovich's knowledge and got to know the system pretty well. He played four seasons under Pop, winning two championships in San Antonio.
When Kerr first arrived in San Francisco, he most probably already knew who he wanted his team to become. The Spurs are a role model franchise and it is no secret almost, if not every other team in the NBA aspires to follow San Antonio's footsteps. It is fair to say Kerr has done his job right with his star-studded team.
