Even with another strong start to their season, the Golden State Warriors understand that they need to remain on the pace they’re currently at in order to enter the playoffs on a high note. Steve Kerr also knows how important this is especially after he admitted that the team’s “number one goal” is securing home court advantage.

The fourth-year head coach then added, via Mark Medina of The Mercury News, that playing inside Oracle Arena gives them a distinct advantage over their opponents as it is very difficult for road teams to win there. The Oakland faithful have been known to cheer loudly for the Dubs which adds more pressure to their visitors.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr cited securing home-court advantage throughout the 2018 NBA playoffs as “probably the number-one goal.”

“We always emphasize home court. We know how tough it is to win at Oracle for an opposing team,” Kerr said. “We know the importance of having a Game 7 at home. We talk about it every year.”

The Warriors have done well in their first 47 games as they currently own the best record in the league at 37-10. If the playoffs started today, they will be assured of home court advantage until the Finals, and will once again have the mental advantage knowing that they will play in front of their fans should a series go the distance.

The “number one goal” they have may seem easy to achieve for the Dubs, but Kerr’s comments go to show that he is not taking anything for granted and wants his players to remain focused on the first order of business. It could also serve as a reminder to them not to look too far yet and take things one step at a time instead.
