The Washington Wizards were down five with under a minute to play in Game 1 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Washington got the stop, the rebound, and just a sliver of hope remaining as there was still enough time for a quick two-for-one.

But that hope proved to be short-lived. Just a few seconds long, in fact.

The rebound nearly fell out of bounds towards the sideline before being corralled by Russell Westbrook. But just as he started his burst to bring the ball up, the back of his heel stepped on the line and he was whistled for the turnover. Sixers ball.

The Wizards challenged the call, but the play was a tough one to assess. The referees ultimately decided to let it stand.

Westbrook didn't have a huge game for his standards. He did lead the Wizards with 14 assists, but he had just 16 points on 17 total attempts from the field along with six turnovers. The final one proved to be the nail in the coffin for Washington.

Russell Westbrook will get his chance at redemption as the Wizards and Sixers square off again in Game 2 on Wednesday.
