The Washington Wizards saw their playoff hopes officially extinguished on Friday following their 118-107 defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Orlando bubble.

Rui Hachimura, Thomas Bryant, and Troy Brown finished with 20-plus points each, but they still had no answer to the Pelicans' balanced attack.

The Wizards' record plummeted to 24-45 (10th place), leaving them no chance of catching up to the eighth-seeded Orlando Magic (32-38).

Interestingly enough, the Charlotte Hornets (23-42) — who are part of the delete 8 — now have a better record than the Wizards.

Washington was the only team out of the Top 8 in the Eastern Conference to get an invite in Orlando. It was a long shot for the Wizards from the get-go considering they fielded an extremely depleted, youth-laden squad.

Despite the long hiatus prior to the restart, the team's five-time All-Star John Wall was still unable to return from his ruptured Achilles tendon injury.

The Wizards' best player Bradley Beal also did not enter the bubble due to a shoulder injury. Davis Bertans, who was having a breakout year for the Wiz, sat out as well in anticipation of his impending free agency.

The Wizards have gone 0-5 in the bubble, losing to the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, Indian Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Pelicans.

Despite their struggles, the team still has a chance to end the season on a high note in their last three regular-season games. A win, however, won't come easy, as they are set to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder, Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics.
