The Auburn Tigers have apparently decided taking some moral high ground is important in 2017. Shortly after being arrested for public intoxication, quarterback Sean White has been dismissed by the Auburn football program.
Originally, the Tigers went in the usual “we need more facts” mode.
“Coach [Gus Malzahn] is aware of the situation,” an Auburn spokesman told AL.com. “He is gathering all the facts and will handle this appropriately.”
Enough facts were apparently gathered, as Sean White is no longer on the football team.
For what it is worth, and this is important context, White has had previous issues. This isn't a one-off mistake in which the university is tossing him under the bus instead of giving him another chance.
White was literally just coming off a two-game suspension for a different undisclosed disciplinary action. Instead of doing something similar to that as punishment, now he will be out of football for the remainder of the 2017 season.
The dismissal was first reported by AL.com. The school later confirmed the dismissal.
“Sean White is no longer a part of our football program at Auburn,” coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement. “He has made poor decisions that are not in the best interest of our program, and more importantly, himself. We appreciate his time at Auburn and wish him nothing but the best.”
This appears to end White's weird career with the Tigers. He had started 16 games for Auburn during his run with the program. That was the solid part of his career. Then everything else went downhill after. A broken arm in the Sugar Bowl left the door open for Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham to come in and win the starting job.
Here is to hoping White figures whatever he needs to out.
