The Texas football program enters the 2024 season as one of the top teams in the country. Their transition to the SEC along with Oklahoma will be a major storyline to watch this season, as will the Heisman Trophy candidacy of Quinn Ewers.

The June and July months are rather uneventful in the sport, but the Texas football program is undergoing a move as former Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst is no longer with the program, per a report from Joe Cook of On3.

‘Paul Chryst is no longer with the Texas football program, a University of Texas spokesman told Inside Texas late Wednesday night. Chryst was a special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian during the 2023 season.'

Chryst was under Steve Sarkisian as an assistant to the Texas football team this past season, but now he is no longer with the program. He was also spotted at a recent Green Bay Packers practice at the end of May which sparked plenty of rumors, although there has been no official announcement of where Chryst is headed.

Chryst spent just one year with the Longhorns after being fired as the Wisconsin head coach in the middle of the 2022 campaign. Chryst was an assistant with the Badgers from 2005 until 2011 before going to Pitt to be the head coach. In 2015, he came back to Madison and was the head coach from 2015 until 2022.

Chryst compiled a 62-26 record with 43 Big Ten Conference wins. His resume includes six bowl victories, so he was well-known for having a competitive team seemingly every year. However, Wisconsin began the 2022 season 2-3, which ultimately led to the decision to part ways with Chryst.

The Badgers moved on and hired former Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell as his replacement. In Fickell's first full year at Wisconsin, he went 7-6 with a 5-4 Big Ten mark and a loss to LSU in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Texas football staff changes keep on coming

Paul Chryst is the latest in a series of assistant coaches to leave the Texas football program this offseason. Joe DeCamillis left for the special teams job at South Carolina. Payam Saadat joined left for the associate head coach and interior defensive line coach job at Nevada. He joined Jeff Choate, who became the head coach for the Wolfpack.

So, a lot of changes have taken place for the Texas football program this offseason. It remains to be seen where Paul Chryst is headed, although the former Wisconsin head coach has an impressive resume that should be appealing to a number of programs across the sport.

Nonetheless, the Texas football program has another position on the coaching staff to fill as they embark on their new journey to the SEC in 2024.
