It has been a rough couple of weeks for the UConn Huskies football team. They got shut out against Fresno State by a score of 45-0. Then UConn dropped a game against Holy Cross by a score of 38-28. Then on Sunday, Huskies head coach Randy Edsall made the announcement that the 2021 campaign would be his final one.

However, news came Monday that Edsall has decided to step down immediately, according to Brett McMurphy of Action Network.

So, what exactly changed in the last 24 hours? Nobody knows, but this is definitely a stunner and a wild turn of events that now has Lou Spanos, the Huskies defensive coordinator, taking over the ship from today onward.

Here is the official statement from UConn athletic director David Benedict in a whirlwind of events around the Huskies football program.

Now, Spanos will take over and prepare for a game against Purdue on Saturday, which is already a load to deal with considering how talented the Boilermakers are.

So, Randy Edsall's coaching career has officially ended, which we all expected after Sunday's announcement, but the final game of his career will be a loss to Holy Cross, which is not the way anybody wants to go away from the game.
