At the beginning of the year, Blake Griffin started for the Brooklyn Nets. Now, he isn't playing at all. He has been a healthy scratch in three straight games as head coach Steve Nash incorporates new acquisitions from the trade deadline into his rotation.

Griffin joined the Nets last season looking to become a key player on a championship team. His role is all but gone now and it doesn't seem likely that it'll come back unless he becomes an injury replacement. On an Instagram post from former Nets teammate Jevon Carter, Griffin made it crystal clear that he isn't happy with his move to the bench.

Griffin is averaging just 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds on the season. He is shooting just 42.0 percent from the field and 24.3 percent from deep. The 32-year-old not being the star he once was is perfectly understandable. But he would still have a role in his rotation if he was more productive.

Andre Drummond now starts for the Nets at center while Nic Claxton and LaMarcus Aldridge back him up. Griffin could be an offensive upgrade over all of them but has been too ineffective to command playing time. With Goran Dragic's addition and Kyrie Irving soon becoming a full-time player, Brooklyn will have no need for him.

With Brooklyn still in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, it doesn't seem like Griffin is missing out on anything. Kevin Durant ramping up his production after returning from a knee injury and Ben Simmons eventually making his Nets debut will likely change this. For now, though, Griffin is just a bench player on a middling team.
