Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant and former Boston Celtics big man Glen Davis had an exchange on social media regarding Kyrie Irving's decision to step on the Celtics logo following a Game 4 win in Boston.
Former Celtics star and Hall of Fame forward Kevin Garnett had previously ripped Irving on Monday afternoon, suggesting it was improper behavior for Kyrie to stomp on “Lucky” after Sunday's win.
Davis joined in, saying the act was a disrespect to anyone who ever suited up for the Celtics. Davis even said the Nets should keep things basketball-related “before somebody get hurt in real life.”
Durant thinks the whole ordeal is absurd. The Nets forward responded to Davis with a bunch of laughing and crying emojis.
Were Irving's actions immature? Maybe, but there also has to be some consideration for how he has been treated by the media in Boston both during his time with the Celtics and since he signed with the Nets. The media consistently painted the narrative of Irving being a poor teammate while in Boston despite the notion being refuted time and again.
“Uncle Drew” has been outspoken about the racist remarks hurled his way at the TD Garden, something Celtics guards Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown acknowledged was a real issue. Unfortunately, Irving also had to deal with a water bottle being thrown in his direction after Sunday's game.
Finally, Davis' apparent allusion to physical harm is just downright perplexing. That doesn't solve anything or help anyone.
As for Durant? Well, he seems to think “Big Baby” is acting like a clown.
