The Brooklyn Nets have a major dilemma on their hands and could potentially wind up losing both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving this offseason. With Irving rumored to be mulling a move to the Lakers, the possibility of Durant requesting a trade out of Brooklyn will loom over the Nets. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Durant has not requested a trade from the Nets, yet, and even remains actively advocating for the team to sign Irving to a long-term extension.

“The uncertainty surrounding Irving's future with the Nets continues to leave the franchise vulnerable to a Kevin Durant trade request, but that has yet to materialize, sources said. Durant has four years left on his contract and remains an advocate for the Nets to commit to a long-term deal for Irving, sources said. Numerous teams around the league are preparing to pursue Durant, one of the elite players in the sport, if he becomes available,” wrote Wojnarowski.

Despite rumors suggesting that Durant could force his way out of Brooklyn if Irving does end up leaving, it seems that KD is still pushing for the Nets to keep the core together.

Durant still has four years left on his deal, and Woj indicates that Durant seems more inclined to run it back with the Nets, alongside Irving, than seek a move elsewhere. Of course, that stance could change if Irving ends up leaving.

Irving has until Wednesday, June 29 at 5:00 p.m. ET to make his decision on his $36.5 million player option for the 2022-23 season. If he doesn't opt-in to his deal, he's been rumored to be considering signing with the Lakers via the taxpayer midlevel exception on a deal worth just $6 million, after which he'd have the opportunity to sign a long-term deal with the franchise.
