As far as Kyrie Irving is concerned, the Brooklyn Nets are still a force to be reckoned with even after losing Spencer Dinwiddie to an ACL injury. The Nets, who currently hold a 3-2 slate, will no longer have the scoring specialist at their disposal for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign.
While some pundits are quick to question how this affects the Nets in the long run, Irving believes his re-tooled squad is still deep enough to make a lot of noise this year. On Friday, the 28-year-old guard made his case, per Brian Lewis of The New York Post.
“Dangerous, really dangerous now that we can have that many pieces. Obviously, losing Spence was a big, big, big blow for us; huge, huge blow. After the game, I was realizing a lot of the ball-handling duties, a lot of the things I was relying on to have Spence out there in the (Nets) lineup, we don’t have for a while.
“Now, we have to get another group of guys together in terms of finding that synergy to be able to carry on throughout the rest of the games. So, I’m looking forward to that growth.”
The Nets played their second game minus Dinwiddie on Wednesday, as they snapped their two-game skid with a thrilling 145-141 win over the Atlanta Hawks. Judging by how well the Nets handled the previously undefeated Hawks, looks like Irving's claims do hold a lot of merits. Irving was once again his brilliant self versus Atlanta, pitching in 25 points and six dimes, while his teammates Kevin Durant and Joe Harris added 33 and 23, respectively.
Uncle Drew's marvelous command on offense allowed the Nets to survive a combined 60-point outing from Atlanta's young stars Trae Young and John Collins.
While losing another capable scorer like Spencer Dinwiddie does sting, looks like Kyrie Irving and Co. will be just fine. The Nets have a lot to be excited about.
