The Brooklyn Nets are coming off yet another disappointing season, as they finished with a 28-54 record for the 2017-18 campaign, though, no one really expected them to be a competitive squad. In any case, the Nets will continue its rebuild program, which they could speed up if they manage to succeed netting a higher pick in the upcoming 2018 NBA Draft.

According to Michael Scotto of The Athletic, the Nets are reviewing their options and weighing their assets which they could use to move up to at least “into the teens” range of the draft.

“The Brooklyn Nets are looking to move up into the teens, if possible, league sources told The Athletic. Brooklyn would prefer to maintain cap flexibility for the summer of 2019 in any trade. Spencer Dinwiddie, a finalist for the league’s Most Improved Player of the Year award four years removed from a career-threatening ACL injury and in the final year of his contract at a bargain rate ($1.656 million), is one of Brooklyn’s best trade chips.”

As it seems, the Nets seem to be willing to absorb a bad contract in order for them to nab a more desirable pick position in the draft, provided that the player they would be getting in return would not burden them much financially in 2019. As of the moment, only Timofey Mozgov is guaranteed to suit up for the Nets beyond the 2018-19 season.

Should the Nets succeed in moving up to the teens in the draft, they might find themselves in position to take any of the likes of Zhaire Smith, Robert Williams, Lonnie Walker, and Kevin Knox to name a few.
