Unknown Worlds, developers of Subnautica, are currently looking for a Senior Narrative Designer to “work with us to help shape the next game in the Subnautica universe,” confirming the existence of a new Subnautica game coming soon. According to the hiring post, the game is still in the early stages of development.
Subnautica is an open-world survival action-adventure game where players explore the ocean of an alien planet, discovering flora, fauna, secrets, and mysteries in their exploration. In the game, players have to collect resources and fight for their survival against alien creatures. A sequel, Subnautica: Below Zero, arrived in May 2021, seven years after the release of the first game. The narrative plays a big role in these games, so it makes sense that the Senior Narrative Designer hired by Unknown Worlds will be onboarded early on in the development of the game.
However, this seems to be a distinct game from the “Project M” game that Unknown Worlds is also working on, as that game is a turn-based strategy game, as opposed to Subnautica's free-roaming exploration gameplay.
Unknown Worlds, which was acquired by PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' Krafton, may also end up contributing to the PUBG universe later on.
