There have been some questions about former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Dwayne Haskins during the pre-draft process. Most important among them, at least long-term, is his durability and whether he will be able to take hits at the next level.
One way Haskins is hoping to prove that he is durable and improve his mobility is to shed the knee brace that he wore during his senior year with the Buckeyes.
“I wore a knee brace during the season which I hated because it made me feel very limited in my mobility but I won’t be wearing one on the NFL so,” Haskins told Pro Football Talk on Monday.
“I wore it as for safety, for health precautions, because I didn’t want to get hurt,” he continued. “Coach did make sure I wore it, whether it was at practice or walk through the T-shirts, I wore the knee brace all the time because he didn’t want me to get hurt during the season.”
This is something that Haskins has talked to teams about and it would be interesting to know what teams are thinking about his mobility.
Shedding the knee brace will help his mobility, but is it really going to make that much of a difference? Haskins said that he is going to probably wear some type of smaller brace to protect against injury, but it won't be the big brace he has worn.
“I’m going to shed it,” he reiterated. “I’ll probably wear something smaller or just something to help [protect against] injury but I probably won’t wear the big bulky one anymore, for sure.”
Haskins, once considered a potential No. 1 overall pick, has seen his stock slide during the pre-draft process, but figures to hear his name called in the first round regardless.
