All signs point to Zach Wilson hearing his name called second and landing with the New York Jets in the upcoming NFL Draft next week. According to NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala, Wilson is already getting his mental state right by asking some former Jets quarterbacks what it's like playing for the Jets and under the bright lights of New York. As Kinkhabwala mentioned, the BYU quarterback standout has already reached out to Chad Pennington, Mark Sanchez, and Josh McCown about the prospect of playing in The Big Apple.

Pennington, a two-time NFL Comeback Player of the Year, spent eight seasons with the Jets. Meanwhile, Sanchez played the first five years of his career in New York. Finally, McCown, currently a free agent, played there for a couple of seasons in 2017 and 2018. The three were by no means household names among the quarterbacks in the NFL.

Nevertheless, Wilson is certainly taking the right steps here. With the way he handles his business, it seems like he is also ahead of the curve. Kinkhabwala noted how the 21-year-old has always been a “preparer” and has been doing his homework on the next level ever since he started playing high school football. This is definitely the mindset Jets fans want for who could become their quarterback for the future.

There's obviously a lot of pressure that goes with playing in New York. They have one of the most passionate fan bases in the world and the media coverage there is just wild. Nonetheless, if there's anyone who seems tailor-made for the spotlight, it's probably Zach Wilson.
