Are the Miami Dolphins really so down on Tua Tagovailoa that they could actually take a non-quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month?

Apparently so.

According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, the Dolphins may be mulling the idea of doing just that, which would be a rather jarring move for a franchise that is in desperate need of a quarterback.

To be fair, Brandt said he “would not be surprised” if Miami went in that direction, so this could really be more conjecture on his part more than actual intel from the Dolphins themselves.

However, Brandt is far from the first person to comment on Miami's declining interest in Tagovailoa, whose checkered injury history is evidently causing him to fall on draft boards.

Of course, there is also Oregon's Justin Herbert, who has been a late riser and is now viewed by many as the second-best quarterback prospect in this year's draft class.

Given that the Dolphins are currently employing 37-year-old journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and disappointing youngster Josh Rosen under center, it would be incredibly surprising if Miami didn't opt to draft a quarterback at No. 5.

But perhaps the Dolphins aren't enamored with either Tagovailoa or Herbert and will end up taking another signal-caller in the later rounds?

Miami was expected by many to be one of the worst teams in NFL history entering 2019, and early on, it played the part well, losing its first seven games. However, the Dolphins rebounded, going 5-4 over their final nine contests to finish 5-11.
