Although there had been plenty of speculation regarding the uncertain future of Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas, the team went ahead and decided to release him on Sunday. The recent turn of events clearly have not gone unnoticed by San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman.

Sherman took to Twitter to offer up some support for his former teammate:

It’s really sad how things have played out for a man who is like a brother to me. Just know that when
Earl Thomas gets back on the grass he will be out to make a point! Still one of the best in this league and I look forward to him being able to prove it again

Both players served as the most notable members of the “Legion of Boom” during their days with the Seattle Seahawks. While it has been some time since this group was disbanded, they have clearly tainted close ties with one another.

There were already rumors surrounding potential destinations for Thomas heading into the 2020 NFL season. However, the heated exchange with strong safety Chuck Clark during practice seemed to be the final straw for Baltimore to go ahead and part ways. It now remains to be seen what will come of the $10 million guaranteed money and $5 million signing bonus that is still owed to the seven-time Pro Bowler.

Despite his recent struggles, Thomas should have no problem garnering interest as arguably the most high-profile name left on the market. Sherman is likely hoping that he does not make his return to any teams in the NFC West.
