The Dallas Cowboys have long been in search for that final piece that could put them over the top as bonafide Super Bowl contenders. It seems team owner Jerry Jones thought he finally had the solution in NBA superstar Lebron James.

The NBA had been in the midst of a lockout in 2011. LeBron James was left to ponder his options that offseason. His business manager Maverick Carter said “The Uninterrupted” podcast that he even received an offer from Jones himself:

“I know he got a contract from Jerry Jones that he framed and put in his office,” Carter said.

The prospect of LeBron James joining an offense that featured quarterback Tony Romo, wide receiver Dez Bryant, and tight end Jason Witten wouldn't have certainly made its fair share of headlines. He likely would have fit in somewhere as a hybrid option between Bryant and Witten for Romo in the passing game.

LeBron James admits that he even went so far as to incorporate football workouts into his daily regimen. His background as a two-time all-state receiver in Ohio was clearly more than enough for him to consider the option. It comes as no surprise that Jones would be the one that was willing to take a gamble while taking on the media circus that came with it.

Although LeBron James had a very real chance of making his NFL dreams come to fruition, it appears his legacy in the NBA ultimately took precedent. After all, he was still in search of his first NBA title at the time and he was already dealing with the fallout from The Decision he made to join the Miami Heat the year before.

It is safe to say that LeBron James made the right choice by going on to secure back-to-back championships. Regardless, the missed opportunity still seems to weigh on the mind of him and fans alike to this day.
