San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle just got absolutely paid. He is one of the best in the league and was rewarded with a massive contract extension. With that in mind, it's not a bad idea to try and be more like him if you are also at the position. And that is exactly what Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan appears to be doing.
Tonyan is approaching this a little differently than you might expect though. He's going with the same hairstyle as Kittle.
And teammate and star offensive tackle David Bakhtiari took to Twitter to give his NSFW thoughts on the situation.
Clearly, Bakhtiari is having fun with his young teammate. This is just a teammate mocking his friend for “copying” his other friend.
Tonyan is probably hoping that hairstyle can help him find some Kittle magic.
In two seasons, he has been largely a depth piece in the offense. 2018 saw Tonyan appear in just six percent of the Packers' offensive snaps. 2019 was much better, but still saw the tight end get only 18 percent of Green Bay's offensive snaps.
In that time, he has 14 receptions for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Kittle racked up 85 receptions for 1,053 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2019 alone. What's crazy is, his 2018 season was even better.
Therefore, it is no surprise that one little similarity between Tonyan and Kittle is going to make some people want to connect them.
Things are not exactly set up perfectly for the Green Bay tight end, though. With Jace Sternberger and Marcedes Lewis already on the roster, it is not going to be easy for Tonyan to get much more time in 2020. But he has shown some nice glimpses of potential.
If he can find a way for that hairstyle to help him get some of Kittle's production on the field, then that certainly won't hurt his case.
For now though, it is simply a hairstyle—one with which Bakhtiari clearly wanted to have some fun.
