The 2018 NFL Draft featured depth at the quarterback position that the league hasn't seen in years, and four rookie play callers made history after their performances on Sunday. The Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals all started rookie quarterbacks this weekend. For the first time in the Super Bowl Era, a group of rookie starters went 4-0. Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen have all shown promise early on. Each of them were first round picks i this year's draft. Their numbers aren't quite elite, but they get the job done.
According to NBC Sports, the league's average passer rating is 93.2. Baker Mayfield has the highest rating of this rookie group, with a mark of 81.4. But hey, nobody complains when you get the win. Mayfield threw for 342 yards in a narrow victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Sam Darnold got his second win since he pummeled the Detroit Lions in the season opener. He threw for three touchdowns and benefited from a 219 yard rushing performance from his running back.
Josh Allen flat out had a poor game, but his team squeaked by the Tennessee Titans.
Lastly, Josh Rosen got the win in his first career start for the Cardinals. The team's defense did it all, recording four sacks and two interceptions.
Each one of these quarterbacks got the job done. They used different methods, but got the same end result. The NFL will be harsh to them down the road, so they should treasure every small victory.
