Matthew Stafford heads back to the midwest in a road game against the Colts. The Rams looked so dominant in Week 1, while the Colts were outplayed by the Seahawks. It’s time to continue our NFL odds series and make a Rams-Colts prediction and pick.

If there is an award for the best offseason move, the Rams might win unanimously. After acquiring Matthew Stafford from the Lions, the Rams had a huge Week 1 victory as Stafford threw for over 300 yards with three touchdowns. In Indy, the Colts struggled to get much offense going against a premier Seahawks defense. Carson Wentz still has tons of potential though in leading the Colts offense this year.

Here’s how the bookmakers have set the lines for Sunday’s matchup.

NFL Odds: Rams-Colts Odds

Los Angeles Rams (-190)

Indianapolis Colts (+165)

Over 48 1/2 points (-110)

Under 48 1/2 points (-110)

Why The Rams Could Win

As just mentioned, Matthew Stafford looked fantastic in Week 1. His 321 yards, three passing touchdowns, and unreal 156.1 quarterback rating might end of being one of the best games of any quarterback this season. Now he heads east, closer to his old home of Detroit, to take on the Colts in Indianapolis. The Colts defense allowed Russell Wilson to throw for four touchdowns last week. Stafford should be able to reach that number with ease, as the Colts also allowed 28 points to a ‘Hawks team that did not even have a 100-yard rusher. The Stafford-to-Cooper Kupp connection should be one of the most dynamic in football this year, and the duo connected for over 100 yards and a touchdown against the Bears. Having watched many Lions games, I understand what Matthew Stafford can do with good receivers around him. He should have no problem having another excellent game against this iffy Colts defense. Meanwhile, the Rams defense allowed just 14 points last week against Andy Dalton, who isn’t all that worse than Carson Wentz.

Why The Colts Could Win

The Colts can win this game if Carson Wentz plays as he did in his early days in Philadelphia. In his first season in Indianapolis, it’s not a surprise that Week 1 did not go his way. There’s a learning curve that comes with leading a brand new offense. But Wentz still has potential, and facing a tough Rams defense will certainly be a challenge. This prediction here is largely based on the fact that Wentz will continue to improve as gets more adjusted to the Colts offensive scheme week-by-week. Wentz is better than Andy Dalton of the Bears (although just slightly at this point in time), BUT Wentz does have much more potential than Dalton does at this stage of his career. What this all means is that if Wentz can find more chemistry with his receivers this week, the Rams defense can be exposed on a few short touchdown passes, as Wentz displayed last week. If the Colts win this game, it will be in a back-and-forth high-scoring contest, but Wentz has proven before as an Eagle that he can win the big game. Matching up against Stafford and the Rams definitely qualifies as a big game.

Final Rams-Colts Prediction & Pick

A phenomenal day by Matthew Stafford leads the Rams to an easy 35-24 victory, although Carson Wentz does throw for three touchdowns as well. Stafford has this Rams team already primed to make a Super Bowl run. And it’s only September.
