The San Francisco 49ers have been looking for a franchise quarterback for quite some time. Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick weren't the answers the team was looking for nor were any other quarterbacks that followed until now.

The 49ers have officially signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a lucrative five-year deal with both sides wasting no time in putting pen to paper. San Francisco is convinced Garoppolo is their man and the quarterback felt the same way as he didn't apply leverage in contract talks to get a better deal. The 26-year-old explained his reasoning, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“Because this is where I want to be, honestly,” Garoppolo told reporters on Friday. “I wanted to get this deal done as fast as possible, and it’s only going to help our team going forward, going into free agency, and it’s 75 degrees out here. It’s not a snowstorm like Chicago. We just came from that, so I can speak on that. It’s a lot better here. You know, I don’t know. There’s other factors that go into it, too. That’s a big part. And so it’s just, I don’t know, I wanted to be here I was excited to be here, and I’m happy we got it done as fast as we did.”

With plenty of teams in the league looking for a quarterback of Garoppolo's caliber, the former New England Patriots backup to Tom Brady became a hot commodity. Garoppolo quickly proved his worth as a starter for the 49ers winning all five games for the team to finish out the season.

Needless to say, the 49ers didn't want him to get away, and Garoppolo made things incredibly easy for the team by speeding up the process. San Francisco will now move forward with a legitimate franchise quarterback and a goal to build around him for the team to become relevant once again in the NFC.
