Another year, another record-breaking contract for a star quarterback. This has become a theme of late, with the latest being rewarded to 2016 MVP and Atlanta Falcons signal-caller Matt Ryan. His deal, which netted him $150 million over five years with $100 million guaranteed, likely won't remain on top for long thanks to Aaron Rodgers.

The two-time MVP is nearing the end of the 5-year, $110 million contract extension he signed back in 2013, which set the record at the time. When healthy, the 34-year-old remains perhaps the game's most talented quarterback, and the Green Bay Packers are going to pay him like it.

But, Rodgers knew his deal wouldn't be completed until Ryan's own got worked out with Atlanta. So, when he ran into Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff back in February, he left him with a simple message.

From Andrew Brandt's The Business of Sports podcast, transcribed by NFL.com's Herbie Teope:

“I saw Aaron, interestingly enough, at the Super Bowl in the airport,” Dimitroff said. “He just said to me, ‘We don't know each other that well, but just get this deal done with Matt first so I can get on with my life.'”

The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that Rodgers and the Packers are expected to agree on an extension prior to training camp this summer. Green Bay's new general manager Brian Gutekunst has expressed his desire to do so as well.

Rodgers still has two years left on his current deal, earning $19.8 million in 2018 and $20 million the year after.
