There is no question that the Atlanta Falcons led by Julio Jones and Matt Ryan are one of the best offenses in the NFL. Even the best teams have problems and for the Falcons they had a ton of issues last year in the red zone and it's something they have spent a lot of time trying to fix.
Jones had only nine receptions on 24 targets last year on the Red Zone and only two touchdowns. The team also ranked 23rd in the league in red zone offense which was way down from their 9th place finish the previous year. Jones and Ryan have made it a big focus this training camp to improve on those red zone numbers.
“It's very important for me and Matt to be on the same page down there in the red zone,” Jones said via ESPN. “Over the years, I have the ability to make plays, and he has the ability to put balls there. But it's all about us being on the same page, not having to think when we get down there, knowing where he's going to put the ball, and knowing what I can do before he puts the ball in there.”
Jones also made it clear the Falcons need to be smart when they get down to these scoring positions and can't force something that isn't there.
Despite their red zone struggles, the Falcons were still one of the better offenses in the league last season. However, they have the potential to get even better if Jones and Ryan can get on the same page and score more touchdowns when they get within the 20.
