Matt Ryan leads the Atlanta Falcons into battle on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers and it's a tough test. The 49ers have been consistent for most of the season while the Falcons have been the model of inconsistency.
Even though it's going to be tough to pull off the win it could happen. Let's breakdown a few reasons the 49ers could pull off the upset.
The 49ers' defense has some questions

The 49es' defense was exposed in their last game against the New Orleans Saints, and although the Falcons don't have as good of an offense, they can still have a big game.
In Week 14, the 49ers gave up 46 points to the Saints and allowed Drew Brees to throw for 349 yards and five touchdowns.
The Falcons haven't had a great season but Matt Ryan is still playing well. In each of the last two games, he has thrown for at least 300 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
The secondary is also going to be without Richard Sherman in this game and that is going to hurt them. The Falcons will do enough offensively against a struggling defense to at least have a shot at winning this matchup.
Falcons have shown some flashes on defense

The Falcons have been very inconsistent defensively throughout this season, but if this upcoming Sunday is one of the days that they show up, it would be key in defeating the 49ers. Earlier in the season, Atlanta gave up nine points to the Saints and three points to the Carolina Panthers in consecutive weeks.
The defense is going to have their hands full in this game, but the defense has proven before they are up to the challenge.
Dan Quinn has nothing to lose

Dan Quinn is probably gone after this season no matter what happens in this game, but if the team were to pull off the upset maybe it would be enough to convince Arthur Blank to keep him around for another year.
Look for Quinn and the coaching staff to pull out all the stops to try and get the job done in this game. Trick plays, fake punts, going for it on their own 20-yard line. It all should be on the line because the team has nothing to lose.
Even if everything goes perfectly, it still doesn't guarantee a victory. However, the Falcons could at least give the 49ers a run for their money in this matchup.
