The Baltimore Ravens have made it clear they would love to have linebacker C.J. Mosley back, and head coach John Harbaugh expects the organization to give him the big contract he deserves. If the Ravens are not able to sign Mosley, there are plenty of teams that may be willing to give him a nice payday ahead of the 2019 season.
Seeing as the Ravens had a top-three defensive unit in 2018 and have tremendous success with Mosley, they are likely the front runners to sign the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker. Here are a few teams that could emerge as candidates to sign Mosley this offseason beyond Baltimore as free agency kicks off.
3. Miami Dolphins
The secondary in Miami is without a doubt full of potential, but the front seven is nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, two of the most feared pass rushers from just a couple seasons ago in Robert Quinn and Cameron Wake have seen their production take a nose dive. The linebacker corps is amongst the weakest in the league, so it would be a no-brainer for Miami to give Mosley a serious look.
Mosley is a game-changer and has established himself as a leader in the defense. The Ravens defense has been full of talent in recent years, but Mosley is one of the leading contributors to arguably the most potent defense in the league.
2. Oakland Raiders
The Raiders need an upgrade at just about every position, but their linebacker group was downright disappointing in 2018 in addition to the rest of the defense for that matter. There wasn't exactly an area of strength on the defense, so at this point if Oakland can snag at player with Mosley's skill set, it could presumably turn things around for them, or at least get the ball rolling.
The Raiders really need a captain on defense and unfortunately they lost that after trading Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears. While it's impossible to replace a player like Mack, Mosley could be the first of many new additions to turn the defense around in the future after they acquired Antonio Brown and Trent Brown on the offensive side of the ball.
1. Washington Redskins
The Redskins have the best defense of the three teams listed as possible landing spots for Mosley. They have a solid secondary and their front three are a young work in progress. Linebacker Zach Brown only signed a one-year contract with the team, so Mosley would be a viable option to replace him and take the mantle as the team's linebacker for the future.
Washington has the tools on defense to be a top unit, but they lack a few pieces. Mosley could instantly give the unit a major boost, as he will complement talented players like Ryan Kerrigan, Preston Smith, and Mason Foster. The Redskins have more drastic needs such as finding a starting quarterback to replace Alex Smith, but if they want to retain a strong defensive unit, it would be wise to make a play for a player like Mosley.
