The Baltimore Ravens are seemingly not looking to use their franchise tag on former All-Pro linebacker C.J. Mosley. Baltimore could either be working on a new deal or preparing to let their stud linebacker test the free agent market.
A representative for C.J. Mosley said he has been told that Baltimore will not use its franchise tag on the Ravens' linebacker, per a league source. Mosley expected to be an unrestricted free agent, without a tag.

The Ravens have one of the league's top defenses and Mosley has been a tremendous part of that success, so it would be a bit of a surprise if the team doesn't try to reach some kind of extension. Mosley is an extraordinarily talented player, but the team is deep at linebacker and he may be seeking a huge deal that the team is not be willing to offer him.
Article Continues BelowMosley could be offered a huge contract from another team, and not using the franchise tag could be a big mistake for Baltimore. The Pro Bowl linebacker averages well over 100 tackles a season and has become one of the league's most consistent players.
Only in 2016 where Mosley missed two games did he not have 100 tackles, but he did manage to have 92. A team that can count on a linebacker accumulating 100 plus tackles a season is a luxury. If the Ravens don't sign Mosley, it's likely another franchise will cash in big time with his addition.
Some teams in need of a linebacker are the Oakland Raiders, Washington Redskins, and Miami Dolphins. They have the money and need a leader on defense that Mosley can be. Baltimore would be wise to not lose Mosley this offseason and offer him a deal to keep him around.
