The 2018 NFL Draft is expected to be one of the more quarterback-heavy events in recent years. Although there are a number of teams clamoring to position themselves to take one of them, the Baltimore Ravens are do not seem to be one of them.
However, quarterback Joe Flacco understands that could very well change in the near future. According to ESPN's Jamison Hensley, acknowledged that the time will come for the Ravens to draft is potential successor:
Article Continues Below“It is what it is. It’s a business,” Flacco said Tuesday at the start of Baltimore’s offseason workouts. “Eventually, at some point, that’s going to have to happen. It’s not really for me to worry about.”
The Ravens have relied on Flacco under center ever since they selected him with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. It goes without saying that Baltimore has enjoyed plenty of success during his tenure. Furthermore, Flacco has proven to be a more than competent quarterback after leading the team to a win in Super Bowl XLVII while garnering MVP honors in the game.
However, he is now entering his 11th season after enduring a bit of a down year in the 2017 campaign. That said, it would be wise for Baltimore to start looking for their next prospect to develop behind Flacco while he holds down the fort.
There are plenty of options in this year's draft that have garnered interest. The problem is that they are all expected to go early in the first round. Fortunately, the consensus seems to be overlooking Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson which could make for an intriguing option later in the round should he still be available.
