Things got off to a rocky start for Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Marquise Brown after he spent the offseason recovering from a foot injury. Fortunately, he was finally able to make his preseason debut against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brown played four drives on offense in the 26-15 win over the Eagles. According to Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Sun, head coach John Harbaugh is pleased with what he saw:
“Seemed like he did OK, you know?” Harbaugh said. “I thought about trying to get him a deep ball in there, but just didn’t work out for us. It wasn’t long enough. But it was good to see him out there, and he didn’t really flinch.”
Brown finished the game catching all three of his targets for 17 yards. He also managed to haul in a 2-point conversion; however, it was ultimately called back. More importantly, the rookie finished the game without any lingering ailments to his surgically-repaired left foot.
Harbaugh's main priority is getting a rapport going between Marquise Brown and quarterback Lamar Jackson. While Jackson was slated to play at least a quarter against Philadelphia, John Harbaugh opted to sit him out in Brown's debut. As a result, the two have not spent much time building their chemistry in a real game situation.
The Ravens made quite an investment to help John Harbaugh when they took Marquise Brown with the 25th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The selection was made in an attempt to shore up the firepower around Jackson. The QB and Brown will need to do what they can to get on the same page while ensuring that the rookie receiver does not suffer any more setbacks during the 2019 NFL season.
