Cornerback David Amerson is now a free agent after getting cut by the Oakland Raiders. However, it doesn’t seem as if he wants to stay on the open market for too long. Amerson is moving quickly in search for his next team, and a visit with the Chicago Bears on Wednesday is first up on his already busy itinerary.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
Article Continues BelowFree agent CB David Amerson, released yesterday by the Raiders, is already garnering serious interest. He’s visiting the Bears tomorrow, source said. Other FA visits are scheduled.
Amerson, 26, was cut following a difficult campaign which saw him miss 10 games due to a foot injury. It was the first time he’s missed significant action in his five-year NFL career. Although, he’s just a couple years removed from having a breakout season with the Raiders after being claimed off waivers from the Washington Redskins.
The Bears had a slightly above average pass defense last season. However, they may need some new additions to their secondary this offseason. Two of their top corners, Prince Amukamara and Kyle Fuller, are both set for free agency and they don’t have much depth at the position even if they do retain both.
New Bears coach Matt Nagy, who spent two years as the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, has likely seen a good deal of film on Amerson while he was with the Raiders. He should have some input as to whether the team should seriously consider bringing him in for next season.
