Remember when John Elway was calling players on the Denver Broncos roster soft? While he has since attempted to explain it as not being a shot at his players, it made for some good fodder for roughly two weeks. We can now add the release of defensive back Lorenzo Doss to that discussion.

Lorenzo Doss is apparently not soft. Or, more accurately, he was too hard. According to the reports that announced his release, the defensive back had a habit of getting into fisticuffs with his teammates.

There's more to Doss' release than that. He was also late showing up to practices in a habitual nature. Basically, you're coupling an only OK defensive back with fist-fighting and tardiness. That's not a recipe for success.

When head coach Vance Joseph was asked about the release:

“We’re just trying to get better as a football team, simply put,” he said, via PFT.

Doss being cut marks the third player released in the last nine days, a time span which coincides with their seven-game losing streak, firing of Mike McCoy, benching yet another quarterback, and being referred to as soft by Elway.

That does not seem awesome.

“It’s not a good mood at all,” corner Chris Harris said of the team as a whole. “We lost seven straight, it’s not a good mood at all.”

At least the sky pirate is starting behind center for Denver's next game. Maybe the youthfulness will go a long way in revitalizing the team as a whole. Then again, probably not.
