The Arizona Cardinals return from a trip to London with some enervating news. Apart from taking a soul-crushing 33-0 beatdown at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams, they also saw quarterback Carson Palmer suffer a serious arm injury that puts his availability for the rest of the season in jeopardy.

It was initially reported that Palmer would miss eight weeks to recover from a broken arm, but according to Jose Romeo of ESPN, head coach Bruce Arians said that the team still has no definite timetable for Palmer’s return with the Cardinals currently looking to consult for additional advice from a different doctor.

“It's just a matter of how soon he can come back and still be protective with it,” Arians said of Palmer.

Arians said he didn't yet know when the surgery and second opinion would happen. The Cardinals began their bye week Monday after the trip to London.

Palmer also holds a belief that he could heal much faster than the original eight-week projection.

Arians said Palmer felt he might be able to come back in four-to-six weeks.

The Cardinals are understandably practicing caution in making decisions. They are treading on thin ice and a decision to put Palmer on the injured reserve list would mean that the quarterback will only be eligible to return very late in the season when the Cardinals could be out of the running for a playoff spot.

Drew Stanton will act as Palmer’s placeholder for the meantime with Blaine Gabbert assuming the main backup role.
