It appears that Cam Newton is out in Carolina, but who will be taking his place under center in 2020? According to Dianna Russini of ESPN.com, Teddy Bridgewater could be that guy, with Russini noting that the Panthers have shown “strong interest” in the free-agent quarterback and that talks “have been going very well.”

Bridgewater has spent the past couple of seasons with the New Orleans Saints as a backup to Drew Brees. He was pressed into starting duty for five games in 2019 due to Brees suffering a thumb injury, and during that time, Teddy Bridgewater was terrific, throwing for 1,384 yards, nine touchdowns and a couple of interceptions while completing 67.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 99.1.

In addition, the Saints went 5-0 in Bridgewater's starts.

Of course, Teddy Bridgewater has only made six starts since 2016, so committing to him as your starting signal-caller for the long haul does come with some risk.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisville, was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round (32nd pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Teddy Bridgewater was installed as the Vikings' starter under center during his rookie campaign and showed some promise, throwing for 2,919 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 picks in 13 games and 12 starts.

The following year, Bridgewater started every game and led Minnesota to 11 wins and a playoff appearance. He also made the Pro Bowl to boot after finishing with 3,231 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine picks.

However, that ensuing offseason, Bridgewater suffered a devastating injury that sidelined him for all of 2016.

He has primarily been a backup ever since. It will be interesting, obviously, to see what happens if he lands with the Panthers.
