The Chicago Bears are releasing linebacker Sam Acho, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Acho played in just four games this past season due to a torn pectoral muscle that landed him on the injured reserve list in early October. He ended up logging one tackle.
The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Texas, was originally selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round (113th pick overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft.
He played in all 16 games and made 10 starts during his rookie campaign, finishing with 40 tackles, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.
The following season, Acho started all 16 contests and registered 48 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and a couple of forced fumbles. He then played in just three games in 2013 due to a broken fibula, and during his final season with the Cardinals in 2014, Acho recorded 38 tackles, a sack, a pick, and a forced fumble.
Article Continues BelowHe proceeded to sign with the Bears in April 2015, and that ensuing season, Acho started seven of the 15 games in which he participated and posted 32 stops, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Then, in 2016, the Dallas native played in all 16 games and made six starts, totaling 25 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.
Acho saw his most playing time as a Bear in 2017, when he started 12 of the 16 contests in which he appeared and tallied 40 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble.
The Bears won 12 games and captured the NFC North division title this past season and fell to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
