The Chicago Bears will rest most of their starters, including starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, when they host the Kansas City Chiefs in a preseason game on Saturday, first-year coach Matt Nagy announced Friday night per the team’s official Twitter account.

After their best week of practices so far in 2018, Matt Nagy met with the team today to inform them most starters, including Mitchell Trubisky, will not play in #KCvsCHI. Coach Nagy and his staff had planned for this all week, giving starters on both sides of the ball extra reps.

It’s an interesting decision by the new Bears head coach, especially since his team is still trying to learn the ins and outs of his new offensive system. They also still need to incorporate some new pieces like big free-agent signings Allen Robinson and Trey Burton and rookie wideout Anthony Miller.

The Bears have already three games to date after facing the Baltimore Ravens in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 3. After their game against the Chiefs, they still have a fifth and final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. However, very few — if any — of the starters are expected to feature in that game.

With most of the Bears starters sitting Saturday, they will enter their regular-season opener on the road against the Green Bay Packers a full three weeks without game action (Aug. 19 to Sept. 9). But it appears as if Nagy and his staff are confident that their practices will sufficiently prepare them for that challenging first test in Week 1.
