The Chicago Bears suffered a disappointing season opener 24-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, which has put the team in a quick hole.
However, it appears that the team has shifted their mindset forward as the front office has worked out former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The #Bears worked out former #Steelers S Mike Mitchell today, I’m told. Sounded like it went pretty well.

Mitchell has been floating in the free agent market since being cut by the Steelers back in March at the start of the free agency period. He was set to enter the final year of his five-year, $25 million deal that will pay him $8.1 million in base salary and bonuses in 2018. He had become a fixture in the secondary for Pittsburgh in as a starter over the last four seasons.
Since then, he hadn't received much interest around the league with being among the best available players at his position at this point. He has a chance to latch himself onto the Bears and become a pivotal piece to their secondary while providing a veteran presence with that unit. The 31-year-old has established himself as a stable option at his position that could help solidify them even further. During his tenure with the Steelers, he notched 203 tackles, four fumble recoveries, and four interceptions in 61 games played.
Although the Bears suffered a disappointing season opener loss, the team is looking to make a huge step forward to competing for the playoffs and possibly much further than that. The presence of Mitchell could provide them with a hard-hitting safety that may have a chance to secure a crucial role in the backend of the defense. The fact that the workout went well should increase the chances that he is inked to a deal to have him possibly play some limited snaps against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.
