Chicago Bears defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. was reportedly pressed with charges for an alleged domestic violence incident a couple of months ago. Prosecutors in North Carolina are still pushing through with the filing of the case despite the player's denial of the allegations charged against him.
As per TMZ Sports, a woman who was said to have a relationship with Edwards claimed that she received violent attacks from him after she turned down his sexual advances back on October 17, 2020. The woman attempted to secure proof of the incident when she took out her phone but Edwards was allegedly quick to knock it off and eventually punched her in the eye.
By the account, Edwards went on and grabbed the woman by her hand to the door of the hotel room and into the elevator where he dealt hits to her afterward. The alleged victim claimed to have been pregnant at the time of the incident and was brought to the hospital due to her sustained injuries from the attack.
The woman held her stance and insisted that it wasn't the first time that a violent incident happened between them. The Florida State product denied all allegations and flipped the script to reveal that he was also a victim.
Article Continues BelowIn his defense, cops say they were also notified of an incident regarding a woman hitting a man during that night. However, it remains to be specified if Edwards was indeed that individual.
He admitted that there was a verbal spat that happened between the two of them at the time but Edwards claimed that he attempted to de-escalate the situation by walking away and not initiating any violent acts.
The Bears' lineman still managed to take on the field the day after the incident where his team took on the Carolina Panthers in Week 6. The game ended in a 23-16 victory for the Bears with Edwards contributing a sack and two tackles.
