Cornerback Prince Amukamara had a solid debut season with the Chicago Bears. As a result, he was rewarded with a three-year, $27 million deal. Amukamara intends to repay the Bears’ faith in him by delivering by far his best season, at least when it comes to interceptions.

According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, Amukamara has set himself the goal of recording 10 interceptions this season.

That may seem like an ambitious but still realistic goal for most cornerbacks. But for Amukamara, it would be downright incredible if he could even come close to that mark. That’s because the 29-year-old has had just seven career interceptions in eight NFL seasons (he had a career-high three picks in 2014) and hasn’t recorded a pick in over two full seasons (37 games to be exact).

Amukamara himself acknowledges that he’s setting his sights sky-high, but he feels he’s capable of backing up his big talk.

“I’m reaching for the stars, right?” he said. “But at the same time, I know what I’m capable of. I know how hard I’ve worked. And every year I keep putting those goals out there. Because when it finally does happen, I can circle back to the time that I said it.”

Although Amukamara hasn’t been able to provide interceptions throughout his career, that hasn’t stopped him from being a solid cornerback in this league. The Bears found that out last season, which was why they awarded him with his new contract.

Even if Amukamara doesn’t come close to his seemingly astronomical 10-pick goal, he can still end up making a big impact on the Bears defense this season.
