How often would you want to relive the worst moment of your professional career? The Chicago Bears don't have a say in that question, because according to running back Tarik Cohen, head coach Matt Nagy keeps playing their playoff loss for them.
On Jan. 6, the Bears lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card, 16-15, when Cody Parkey's 43-yard field goal attempt bounced off of the upright.
During an appearance on Mad Dog Sports Radio, Cohen said the following.
“[Nagy] just shows us the last seconds of the game,” Cohen said. “He shows us the crowd reaction, our reaction from the sideline, and he just tells us to never forget that hurt. We want to get back to that place, but have a different outcome. That drives us and motivates us to get through the practice every day.”
While Parkey bore the brunt of the blame following the game, Chicago's offense was sputtering all game, and the defense that carried them to the playoffs gave up a late touchdown to Philly's backup quarterback Nick Foles.
Cohen was an integral part of the Bear's offense as a pass-catching option out of the backfield and in the slot. Last season he ran for 444 yards and three touchdowns, and he caught 71 passes for 725 yards and five touchdowns. Second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky threw for 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
Chicago was carried to the playoffs by their defense, which tallied 50 sacks on the season, third most in the league. They also led the league in pass deflections and interceptions, with 92 and 27 respectively. Unfortunately, the defense, which also led the league with five pick-sixes, wasn't able to put points on the board when it mattered, and neither could the offense.
Will Nagy's tactics be enough to inspire the Bears to take the next step in the playoffs? Their season begins Sept. 5 hosting Green Bay.
