The Chicago Bears are desperate to move up the board in an effort to select a top quarterback prospect in Thursday night's NFL draft.

Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported early Thursday the Bears are aching to move up from the No. 20 spot, though it remains to be seen whether they are willing to give up the draft capital necessary to make a big leap:

Sources have told me the Bears “badly” want to move up from pick No. 20, and the only reason you'd give away that much future draft capital is for a franchise quarterback. Now, a veteran-laden team like the Bears could use those picks down the road, and it could cause the Bears trouble in the coming years if the quarterback doesn't pan out. But GM Ryan Pace needs to get a quarterback in the first two rounds, and it may be Fields up top or Kellen Mond later.

There appears to be a growing amount of buzz suggesting the Bears could move up. Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus recently tweeted fans should be wary of Chicago:

The Bears are certainly candidates to take a quarterback. Andy Dalton is currently projected to be the starter under center, but he is hardly the long-term answer in Chicago.

However, making a deal could be quite complicated. There is no telling a team in the top 10 will be willing to move back to No. 20, especially if the New England Patriots (No. 15) try to get into the mix.

As Jones stated, the Bears also need future draft capital considering they have an aging defense and apparent needs on the offensive line and at wide receiver.

Then again, this is a franchise that has been sorely lacking in franchise quarterbacks. Simultaneously, Chicago's last trade-up for a QB (Mitchell Trubisky) did not work out.

In any case, the Bears could provide a ton of intrigue on Thursday.
