Earlier on Monday, a report surfaced that the Chicago Bears were in talks with Teddy Bridgewater about a contract that would pay him somewhere in the neighborhood of $21 million annually, but it doesn't look like it's going to come to fruition.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Bridgewater is not expected to land with the Bears, noting there are “other quarterback options in play” for Chicago.

One thing is for sure: it seems pretty clear the Bears are looking to upgrade from Mitchell Trubisky, who had a dreadful 2019 campaign and has shown little to no progression since his rookie year in 2017.

Chicago has maintained that it is committed to Trubisky moving forward, but obviously, the Bears are examining other scenarios and may very well end up with a new face under center in 2020.

Bridgewater has spent the last couple of seasons with the New Orleans Saints and was pressed into starting duty in 2019 when Drew Brees missed five games due to a thumb injury.

During that time, Bridgewater was terrific, throwing for 1,384 yards, nine touchdowns and a couple of interceptions while completing 67.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 99.1.

The Saints also went 5-0 in Bridgewater's starts.

However, the 27-year-old has started just six games overall since 2016, which could very well give some teams pause about handing him a lucrative long-term contract.

Bridgewater, who played his collegiate football at Louisville, was taken by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and was installed as the starter for the first two years of his career before a devastating knee injury during the summer of 2016 caused him to miss his entire third season.
