The Cincinnati Bengals have continued to see their season go south with their fall out of the playoff picture with each passing week.

Their playoff hopes have taken yet another major blow as star wide receiver A.J. Green is set to undergo season-ending surgy on a torn ligament in his toe, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This puts the Bengals without their primary threat in the passing game as he had been muscling through the toe injury over the last few weeks having missed three straight games due to the injury. He was able to make his return this past Sunday against the Denver Broncos, but he suffered the torn ligament in his toe that has effectively ended his season.

Green had made just one catch for seven yards against the Broncos before suffering the toe injury, which ends what was another productive campaign despite him being sidelined for more than the last month. In nine games played, he tallied 46 catches for 694 receiving yards with six touchdowns. Green may have well been on his way to tally north of 1,000 receiving yards for the seventh time in his career. However, this marks just the second time that he has failed to reach that mark in his first eight campaigns.

This now puts the Bengals without two of their primary offensive weapons as quarterback Andy Dalton is out of the mix due to a torn ligament that has also ended his 2018 campaign. The absence of Green will now put more of the workload on Tyler Boyd to be the top receiving option. Boyd is in the midst of his breakout campaign as he has set career highs across the board with 69 receptions for 938 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Second-year running back Joe Mixon may also factor more greatly into the passing game.
