Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and rookie wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase have been teammates for a total of three seasons over their football careers so far, which include two at LSU. So far, not many opposing secondaries have had much of an answer to containing them.
Burrow set multiple Bengals franchise records in the regular season, while Chase has reached notable feats after another that even a multitude of Hall of Fame wideouts were not able to achieve during their rookie campaigns.
Much has been talked about regarding just what is behind the success of Burrow and Chase. For Burrow, it has simply come down to the lengthy experience that he has had in playing alongside the 2021 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year contender, which he explained further during a press conference ahead of the 2022 AFC Championship Game.
Article Continues Below“I think we just have a lot of reps accumulated together,” Burrow said. “It's all about how many times you throw a certain route with a guy and however many times you can talk through certain looks that you might see on that route from the defender, whether he's high hip or low hip or inside or outside, we just have probably more reps accumulated than a lot of people do.”
Regardless of the route or even the situation at hand during a game, Burrow and Chase have simply continued to shine together. This has translated over to the playoffs, as Burrow has connected with Chase on 77.8 percent of throws to go along with 225 combined yards in the wins against the Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans.
Their biggest test together is up ahead next, as the Bengals will meet the Chiefs in the AFC title game.
