Joe Burrow is the face of the Cincinnati Bengals. The superstar quarterback is at the forefront of Cincy's sudden resurgence over the last few years. His ability to lead with long bombs and timely throws have made the team into a perennial Super Bowl contender. In order to stay at this level, though, Burrow needs to stay healthy. Because of that, Joe Burrow is now switching his helmet to one that is designed to protect his head, per Sports Illustrated.

“Joe Burrow is sporting a new way to stay healthy this season. The Bengals quarterback is wearing a position-specific helmet to mitigate the risk of concussions caused by the ground. The passer's never had a logged concussion in college or the NFL, but better safe than sorry”

Concussions are becoming a much more relevant topic today, especially in the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa's multiple concussions last season shone a spotlight on how concussions can be so damaging. The quarterback position, while not as physical as, say, the running back position, is also susceptible to head injuries due to QBs taking hits from linemen. Joe Burrow echoed these sentiments, with the Bengals star admitting that he played with concussion-like symptoms before.

It's not clear yet whether it was Burrow's prerogative to wear the protective helmets or if it was mandated by the Bengals themselves. Regardless, this is a good sign for Cincinnati. Protecting your star quarterback from getting brain mush is always a good thing. No offensive line is perfect, and Burrow will undoubtedly take more hits over his career. Getting a way to protect him even further is a must if they want to continue being a contender.

Burrow's health will also depend heavily on how Cincinnati's new offensive line holds up next season. The Bengals' pass protection was hit-or-miss last season, but that was mostly due to injuries. This offseason, they invested in their o-line anew, signing All-Pro tackle Orlando Brown Jr. to protect Burrow. With so many elite pass rushers in the AFC North (Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and Cam Heyward), adding more protectors for their superstar QB is a must.
