The Cincinnati Bengals took LSU quarterback Joe Burrow and Clemson wide receiver Tee Higgins with their first two picks of the 2020 NFL Draft last week, and the duo will be bringing back memories of old times in Cincinnati with their jersey numbers.

Back in the mid-2000s, when the Bengals became relevant again, Carson Palmer was under center and Chad Johnson was the No. 1 wide receiver, forming a rather lethal combination.

And now, Burrow will be wearing Palmer's No. 9, and Higgins will be donning Johnson's No. 85. Higgins had this to say on his choice to Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' team website:

“I can't wait to put that number on … Keep the tradition going.”

Johnson himself is also excited that Higgins will be sporting his number, saying,

“An honor. An honor for me for him to wear 85.”

Johnson is also excited for Higgins' potential:

“It's amazing what one draft can do. It can change everything. I think this one did … Tee is a lot like A.J. [Green], yeah, I agree. Same body. He's big. He goes up and gets the high ball better than I did and he's a better route runner than he gets credit for. Defenses are going to get tired trying to cover two tall guys like that. Then you've got John Ross running around and Tyler Boyd in the middle of the field. I'm excited.”

Couple that with the fact that Burrow may be coming off of the greatest collegiate season for a quarterback in NCAA history, and Cincinnati certainly seemed to knock it out of the park in the first two rounds.

Whether or not Burrow and Higgins can help the Bengals rebound from a miserable 2-14 campaign remains to be seen, but there certainly seems to be reason for excitement in Cincy.
