The Cincinnati Bengals released long-time quarterback Andy Dalton earlier this week, clearing the way for No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow to take the reins under center and ending an era.
Following Dalton's release, Bengals running back Joe Mixon took to social media to post a heartfelt goodbye to his now-former teammate:
“Man words can’t explain this,” Mixon wrote in an Instagram post about his former Bengals teammate. “From the 1st day I met you bro. You were the most humble guy I done ever met being in the NFL starting @ QB. You took me in like I belonged here and I just wanna say I appreciate you for all you did for me as a Player on the field and in meetings as well being a Man off the field and all you did for Cincinnati. Can’t thank you enough Bro!”
Mixon was a teammate of Dalton's for three years and developed into one of the more productive halfbacks in the NFL under his tutelage, racking over 1,100 rushing yards in each of the last two years.
Dalton, who played his collegiate football at TCU, was originally selected by the Bengals in the second round (35th pick overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft.
He was immediately named Cincy's starting signal-caller and made the Pro Bowl during his rookie campaign after throwing for 3,398 yards, 20 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
Overall, Dalton notched three Pro Bowl selections throughout his tenure with the Bengals. However, he briefly lost his job to Ryan Finley in 2019, a clear indication that Dalton's time in Cincinnati was running out.
