Things are not looking good in the preseason for Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase.  In Week 1 of the preseason, Chase was not able to show much for his hype, as he was only targeted once in the Bengals' 19-14 road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He caught that lone look, but it's difficult to draw anything out of that microscopic amount of work. In Week 2, however, Chase saw his targets triple but he dropped all of them and finished with nothing to show for in a 17-13 loss on the road to the Washington Football Team.

After an explosive sophomore season with the LSU Tigers, Chase decided to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Bengals fifth overall. Expected to play sweet music together with his old quarterback in LSU, Joe Burrow, Chase has simply not looked translated his promising talent into anything tangible on the field. It's just the preseason, though. It's not rare to see first-rounders struggle in such games. Then again, the pressure would only continue to mount on Chase if he can't atone for his poor performances in Week 3 of the preseason against the Miami Dolphins in front of Bengals fans at home.

The Bengals are not too far removed from their experience with a first-round bust in John Ross, whom they took ninth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, so the focus on  Chase will be a little bit more intense in the coming days and weeks.
