After losing Super Bowl 56 to the Los Angeles Rams, the Cincinnati Bengals enter an interesting 2022 offseason. The roster is solid throughout and there shouldn't be too many changes made. Even so, we take a look at a possible surprise Bengals roster cut in the upcoming offseason.

The Bengals roster is in a great place right now. They have a decent amount of cap space and don't have to worry about signing anybody to a massive extension at this moment. Their best move is to retain the core of the team and build upon what they already have. If a surprise release were to come to fruition, the likely reasoning would be for salary cap purposes.

Although it's unlikely, and would certainly come as a shock, the Bengals could be letting go of one of their prominent receivers. Considering Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are both on rookie deals, that leaves Tyler Boyd as the odd man out.

With that said, here is our surprise Bengals roster cut heading into the 2022 offseason.

Surprise Bengals Roster Cut in 2022 Offseason

Tyler Boyd

Tyler Boyd is a very talented receiver that has excelled throughout his career. He played a major role during the tough times in Cincinnati and maintained consistency with his opportunities this year. Although that's true, Boyd could fall victim as a cut candidate in the 2022 offseason. Especially if the Bengals believe they can use that money and invest it into the offensive line.

The Bengals veteran receiver played well, so if he were to leave the team it would make more sense to trade him. Either way, Cincinnati won't suffer harsh consequences on their salary cap if they let Boyd go. It would only generate about $2.8 million in dead cap. The front office would receive a good sum of money back that could help a weaker area on the roster.

At the end of the day, the Bengals need help on the offensive line. Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are both talented enough to carry the load in the passing game. Cincinnati could use the money gained from cutting Boyd to boost up the offensive line. The front office could look to make a splash signing during free agency then use some draft capital to select one or more exciting rookie offensive linemen.

If that happens, the roster suddenly becomes more balanced. Joe Burrow would have a sturdy offensive line in front of him and still have Chase and Higgins to throw too. Meanwhile, Joe Mixon continues to carry the workload out of the backfield. It's a simple roster reconstruction that could pay off for Cincinnati next year.

We'll see how it all plays out though. The Bengals can still improve the offensive line even without releasing Tyler Boyd. This is a massive offseason for Cincinnati as they must find a way to repeat for another Super Bowl appearance. It'll be a tough task, especially considering how stacked the AFC has recently become. Even so, now is the time for this franchise to take some swings to build a championship-level roster.
