The Cleveland Browns fell back to what has become an all-too-familiar territory on Sunday afternoon after suffering a disappointing 38-14 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

It was a one-sided affair that saw rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield struggle mightily in finding any effectiveness throwing the ball that contributed greatly to the blowout defeat. Following the contest, Mayfield took his blame for the team's shortcomings offensively while voicing he did a poor job of adjusting as the game went on, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

He lamented that he didn't adjust well to their “change-up of throwing in man and blitzing. It doesn't matter what they are doing. I have to do my job.”

He added “you're not always going to have a perfect day. You're not always going to have the day that you envision. You have to be a great in-game adjuster at this level. To whatever they are throwing at us, we have to react to it and play well. I will be the first to tell you, I did not do that today.”

This was a performance from Mayfield that saw him look like a rookie quarterback with the issues he was having throwing the ball down the field. He had several poor decisions that saw complete just 22-of-46 passes while throwing a pair of interceptions that put his team in a bigger hole to dig themselves out.

Mayfield had also struggled to get his primary weapon in the passing game Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry involved as he recorded just two catches on nine targets for just 11 receiving yards. The lack of true involvement for Landry put their offense in a tougher spot as rookie Antonio Callaway made a couple of key drops that contributed to their offensive issues. Meanwhile, their running game couldn't get off the ground as running back Carlos Hyde had just 34 rushing yards on 14 attempts.

It was a total offensive funk that the Browns couldn't get out of against the Chargers defense. That said, it has become clear that Mayfield's play will be indicative of how much success the team has for the rest of the 2018 season and that is something that both he and the team clearly realizes.
