Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is excited about the opportunity to have more future matchups with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Mayfield and company came up just short in the 26-24 loss at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, with the rookie quarterback's interception on the final drive sealing the win and a playoff berth for the Ravens.
But, even with the loss, the former Oklahoma star is already looking forward to going toe-to-toe with Jackson in future games.
Here's what Mayfield had to say about Jackson's skills, courtesy of Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com:
“Lamar [Jackson] is a great player. He did so many great things today, running the ball and passing the ball. I think it’s going to be me versus him for a while in this division, and I am looking forward to it.”
Mayfield finished with 3,725 passing yards on the season to along with 27 touchdowns, which set an NFL record for most throwing scores by a rookie.
That should be enough to give the Browns plenty of confidence in him moving forward, no matter who eventually winds up as the team's new head coach.
With interim coach Gregg Williams and offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens already among the list of coaches set to be interviewed, this should be a job that garners a lot of attention due to Mayfield's potential.
Cleveland certainly hasn't always been a great job in the NFL, but with lots of talent on both sides of the ball, it may be one of the better jobs available this offseason.
